High blood pressure harmful for your heart and blood vessels which is the reason of heart attack  in many ways. You can have high blood pressure (hypertension) for years without any symptoms. Even without symptoms, damage to blood vessels and your heart continues and can be detected. Your blood pressure is highest when your heart beats, pumping the blood. This is called systolic pressure. When your heart is at rest, between beats, your blood pressure falls. This is called diastolic pressure Uncontrolled high blood pressure increases your risk of serious health problems, including heart attack and stroke.

Actually, blood pressure is the force of blood with which it pushes the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps. Blood pressure is typically recorded as the systolic pressure over the diastolic pressure. Generally, normal reading for blood pressure is 120/80 mm Hg, but can vary from person to person and age of individual. But, at any time, if blood pressure reading is found consistently 140/90 mm Hg or higher, it comes under category of high blood pressure. If this pressure rises and stays high consistently, it can damage the vital organs of the body. If untreated, it can result in cardiac arrest, kidney failure, stroke, injury to the brain and eyes, etc.
