Asthma is a chronic lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways in the lungs. Asthma is still a serious even dangerous disease that affects about 26 million Americans and causes nearly 2 million emergency room visits ever year. Asthma is another disease that does not have a permanent cure .

Asthma is a disease affecting the airways that carry air to and from your lungs. People who suffer from this disease are said to be asthmatic. When a person with asthma comes into contact with something that irritates their sensitive airways even asthma trigger, it causes their body to react in three ways:

  1. the muscles around the walls of the airways tighten so that the airways become narrower
  2. the lining of the airways becomes inflamed and because of this it starts to swell
  3. sticky phlegm sometimes builds up, which can narrow the airways too much .

The inside walls of an asthmatic’s airways are swollen or inflamed. This swelling or inflammation makes the airways extremely sensitive to irritations and increases your susceptibility to an allergic reaction.

When your asthma symptoms become worse than usual, it’s called an asthma attack. In a severe asthma attack, the airways can close so much that your vital organs do not get enough oxygen. People can die from severe asthma attacks.

Currently Asthma has no permanent cure but there are so many treatments for this which control your asthma temporarily and when you feel fine, you still have the disease and it can flare up at any time. However, with today’s knowledge and treatments, most people who have asthma are able to manage the disease. They have few, if any, symptoms. They can live normal, active lives and sleep through the night without interruption from asthma.
